Psalm 107: 10-16
‘Some sat in darkness and deepest gloom, imprisoned in iron chains of misery. They rebelled against the words of God, scorning the counsel of the Most High. That is why he broke them with hard labour; they fell, and no one was there to help them. “Lord, help” they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He led them from the darkness and deepest gloom; he snapped their chains.’
Wow, wow, wow!!! Don’t we all have some chains that just need to be snapped!
Chains form part of everyone’s lives, they come in so many different forms. Chains of our families before us, chains binding us in sin, chains of depression and anxiety, chains of relationships, chains of grief, there are so many Earthly things that chain us.
BUT, when I read the above scripture, WHOA am I moved! IMPRISONED IN IRON CHAINS… but when they cried out, he SNAPPED their chains! Chains of IRON, and he snapped them.
The writer words emphasise the suffering, but they also make sure we fully understand that when they cried out, with EASE, the Lord snaps the chains.
Most of my life, I have walked around dragging chains… Chains of previous generations, then some new chains I picked up along the way… I have grown accustomed to all this extra iron weight I carry around. But very recently I was reminded that what we cannot do in our own human form, God can do with EASE.
I pray over my children, that my snapped chains will not ever reach their spirits. I pray that any chains along their paths be picked up by our GLORIOUS God and snapped. I cry out for you all, that Lord if there are chains that need to be snapped, then please snap them. AMEN.
There is nothing that we can do, despite what we humanly tell ourselves, that can separate us from the love of Christ. Believe that and your days of distress will be fewer.
